Summer in Groix

When the beautiful season sets in on the island of Groix, travelers disembark from the ferry to come and enjoy a breath of fresh air, a good breath of pure, sea air.

An island to reinvigorate yourself

The pleasure of this island is that even in high season, you don't look for a place to spread out your towel: the beaches there are large, vast and allow everyone to find their own little corner of tranquility. But be careful, you have to know how to find the right places! Since you're here, I'm going to tell you my little regular secrets: the Grands Sables beach is one of my favorites for a family picnic day, a beach volleyball afternoon with friends or simply alone , to appreciate the landscape (it must be admitted, this beach is unique). For small loving couples, on the other hand, I advise you to isolate yourself by looking for small coves, sometimes not easy to access because they are hidden, but so peaceful...! You can take a look at the beaches of the island of Groix.

Beyond the beaches, its fine sand and its memories, my favorite activity on vacation in Groix is walking. On the many paths that run through the second island of Brittany: there are coastal paths, to go around the beaches and enjoy the view, but there are inland paths, which in my eyes have almost more charm! In spring, in flower, they are simply splendid. In summer, more wild, they are conducive to sweet, peaceful moments. You can simply spend the afternoon walking the trails, stopping at the Trou de l'Enfer to get some fresh air (in the literal sense of the word) and then continue on to Locmaria to sip a little drink. in front of the sunset.

Bike rides and sea trips

If you're not much of a walker, I recommend bike rides. Although you have to be careful in July-August, when there are more cars on Garnet Island, the bicycle (electric for the less sporty among us) remains the most suitable means of transport: no pollution ( sound and environmental), quick and excellent way to make a little effort to eliminate the butter with which Breton pancakes are filled. Excellent ecological, psychological and physiological results with cycling. THE bike rental companies are mainly in Port Tudy, but you will also find them on the way up to the Bourg. My advice once you have rented your bike: take a short tour of the island, which will allow you to get your bearings very quickly: the port, Locmaria, the Bourg, the different beaches, Pen-Men…

One last fun activity for a vacation? Rent a boat, or go for a sailboat trip. The boat, especially without a motor, is total decompression. It's relaxing, it's really a vacation activity; apart from on the Ourcq canal in Paris, we don't do it often!
We enjoy, we tan, and we can even take out the fishing rod for a treat at dinner (courage!). For sports enthusiasts, we also have nautical equipment near Port Mêlite!

A calmer activity?

I have presented to you my favorite “outdoor” activities, but I have not yet told you about the more subtle, quieter pleasures: cafes on the terrace. Breakfast in the sun is, for me, the very definition of a successful start to a vacation day. Again, I have my favorite places, and the Café de la Jetée in Port Tudy is one of them; its terrace is perfectly exposed in the morning, ideal with a small book or the day's newspaper. The Groisillons being welcoming people, this little moment is also a privileged moment for discussions, before the chaos of the lunch service.

Any last advice? “Last but not least” this one: quite hidden away from the port, is Les Fumaisons. A sort of elevated terrace, made entirely of wood, has been built on site. You can enjoy smoked fish platters, accompanied by a glass of wine, all with a splendid view. Favorite moment, particularly before the storm, when the sky is cluttered with black clouds and a ray of sunlight illuminates the hulls of the boats; there, we are really in Brittany…
