The beaches of Groix

The ultimate guide to the beaches of Groix Island

Island rhymes with beaches and the island of Groix is really not without them. The best known of all, the Great Sands, is not the only one in this island landscape. The island of Groix has more than ten beaches, each with its own particularity. Most are accessible in a few minutes from Port Tudy or Locmaria.

The Great Sands

The largest beach Groix island, with a view of the continent. Known to be a convex beach, Grands Sables has moved away from VVF beach to get closer to Port Mêlite. You can enjoy its fine sand and water activities in season. Bring your volleyball court, the flat surface of the beach is perfectly suited to games! Finally, this famous beach in Brittany is supervised in season.

Poullziorek (Tahiti Beach)

Among the beaches of Groix, this is the most northerly of the island. Indeed, it is located just before the village of Quelhuit and not far from the Pen Men lighthouse. Poullziorek, often called “ Tahiti beach“, is located at the level of a small cove that is relatively difficult to access and inaccessible at high tide. However, at low tide this small beach with white sand and turquoise water gains all its “Tahitian” charm.

Porh Koustic

Full of charm, Porh Koustic is hidden between Pointe des Chats and Sables Rouges. You will undoubtedly have a great time with family, friends or lovers. Furthermore, at low tide, a mysterious sandy passage appears on the right, giving a view of Pointe des Chats.

Kermarec

Located to the right of Locmaria beach, this small, discreet cove with white sand is exposed to the sun all day long. Kermarec is therefore an ideal beach for relaxing and enjoying the wild sweetness of the island of Groix! Our favorite.

The Côte d’Hénoz

The beach on the Hénoz side, at the bottom of the cliff of the same name which overlooks Port-Tudy at the level of the sea wall, is ideal for relaxing after lunch on the Port. Discreet but friendly, it is one of the Groix beaches which offer a lovely panorama with the rocks surrounding it.

Red Sands & VVF

We could say that the Sables Rouges are subdivided into several small beaches of Groix. To the right, the beach forms an arc of ocher-colored sand. On the left, the beach commonly called “VVF beach” is friendly and quite busy in season. The more adventurous can also go for a walk on the rocks and discover the old abandoned cabin of the Grands Sables rescuers.

Locmaria

Locmaria beach borders the village of the same name and has numerous boat moorings. Well exposed to the sun, this beach is particularly easy to access and supervised in season. You can enjoy terraces on its heights and nautical rentals in summer. Finally, in mid-August, the beach welcomes the Fire of Locmaria.

Porh Skeudoul

This pretty beach in the hollow of a cliff is accessible from the coastal paths between Port-Tudy and Port Mêlite. Sometimes nicknamed “Auberge Beach” because a 5-minute walk from the Groix Youth Hostel, Porh Skeudoul will offer you calm and rest.

Port Melite

Located at the end of the Port Mêlite road, between Porh Skeudoul and the Grands Sables, this family beach on the island of Groix has a nautical club and surveillance in season. Furthermore, the beach is close to a large car park (useful for accessing the Grands Sables) and a snack van.

Moreover, for the most curious, other beaches are hidden on the island of Groix. The Stank, Porh Melin, the Baie des Curés… You will not fail to discover them during your walks along the coastal paths.

We talk about the beaches of Groix, but also other activities to discover over a day in our article which relates a summer day in Groix.
